Two years ago I attended a two-day seminar on Close Reading. Every Academic/Instructional Coach in my district attended this “Train the Trainer” session. This ignited the fire behind all of my Close Reading activities. I continue to learn thanks to gurus such as Tim Shanahan.
March of 2013, was the first month I truly started selling my creations on TpT. The March Close Reading unit I posted last year was the fourth product I posted. It followed my Close Reading Toolkit. At the time, I used the March passages for a massive intervention group. I had the second highest group with 28-32 students. Kids were all over my room! It was all about engagement!
Needless to say, having the chance to put it all into practice, helped me refine it. Well, my husband helped too. He’s at an amazing school with the most amazing coaches! I know because I worked hand-in-hand with them. As for the last March unit, it doesn’t hold a candle to this one. I can confidently say that I have significantly improved in working with graphics. I’ve discovered cute font. Learned more! Grew more! The list goes on!
It took a lot of help to create a unit like this. My husband helped every step of the way. Btw he’s a teacher too, toughest age-group, middle school!

Are there examples of figurative language in these passages?
